Axelle Saint-Cirel
Mezzo-soprano“A truly groundbreaking discovery” (France 2), revealed during the opening ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, mezzo-soprano Axelle Saint-Cirel stunned the world with her rendition of the Marseillaise on the rooftop of the Grand Palais.
A graduate of the Paris Conservatoire, she explores the organic expression and power of her voice on stage. She hones her technique and interpretation with the help of renowned artists such as Sumi Jo, Anne Sofie Von Otter, Barbara Frittoli, Stéphane Fuget, Brian Jagde, and Sophie Koch, who all provide her with invaluable tools to strengthen her career.
Opera for Peace selected her to represent France at its 2023 academy, and named her an Emerging Artist for the 2024-2025 season. Winner of the international Gordes Melody Competition, as well as the Nuits Lyriques de Marmande and Voix des Outre-mer competitions, she is also a finalist for the 2023 Génération Opéra program.
Axelle easily embodies characters such as Carmen from Bizet’s opera at the Avignon Opera, Nicklausse in Offenbach’s “Les Contes d’Hoffmann” on tour in the French overseas territories, and roles such as The Mother, The Chinese Cup, and The Dragonfly in Ravel’s “L’Enfant et les Sortilèges” at the Monte-Carlo Opera Academy. She has also played Dinah, Anita, and Ruth in Leonard Bernstein’s musicals “Trouble in Tahiti”, “West Side Story”, and “Wonderful Town”.
Sabine Devieilhe invited her to perform alongside her in concert arias by Mozart at the Salle Gaveau, to celebrate the release of her latest album.
Having explored jazz and musical theatre repertoires, Axelle is now specializing in operatic singing. From Monaco to London, and through several French cities, her performance schedule is filling up, allowing her to collaborate with new artists and grace new stages.
