Opera for Peace at the Paris Olympics 2024

26th July 2024

Opera for Peace is delighted to share that our Academy 2023 Emerging Artist, mezzo-soprano Axelle Saint-Cirel, will be performing La Marseillaise French national anthem tonight during the Olympic opening ceremony in Paris – she will sing alongside Céline Dion, Lady Gaga and Aya Nakamura on the greatest stage in the world.

Axelle from Guadelopean origins, was introduced to us by our partners, La Voix des Outre-Mer, after winning the Grand Prix of the 5th Edition of the competition at Opéra de Bastille in 2023. Straight afterwards she participated in our Academy in Paris performing at the Eiffel Tower and at the CIUP, taking part in masterclasses by our Ambassadors, as well as in conferences and workshops, sponsored by the European Investment Bank, The BNP Paribas Foundation, and La Ville de Paris. Since then she has gone from strength to strength, having a wonderful success as Carmen at Opéra Grand Avignon, with upcoming performances at Opéra de Monte-Carlo in Ravel’s L’Heure Espagnole & L’Enfant Et Les Sortilèges, and at Opéra de Toulon in La Belle Hélène.

Opera for Peace continues to support our artists throughout the year, giving them opportunities to perform and become Citizen Artists, inspiring the next generation. Axelle will therefore be one of our participating artists in our event entitled “La Musique – Une Longue Histoire d’Amour” commissioned by CIC, which will be performed in 12 cities in France from September – December 2024.
