Betty Garcés x Palais d’Afrique, Brussels
6th July 2026On the 16th of June, Opera for Peace was delighted to bring together artists, partners, and friends for a special concert at the Palais d’Afrique in Brussels, Belgium.
The evening featured a beautiful performance by Opera for Peace Emerging Artist Alumni Betty Garcés, accompanied by pianist Paul Beynet.
Born in Buenaventura, Colombia, Betty’s journey to the international stage is a powerful testament to the transformative role that access, mentorship, and opportunity can play in an artist’s life. Despite growing up in challenging circumstances, her talent and determination led her to become the first Afro-Colombian soprano.
Betty first connected with Opera for Peace through Opera for Peace partner OLA – Ópera Latinoamérica. During the pandemic, Opera for Peace supported Betty through mentorship, coaching, and artistic development opportunities, helping her continue to grow at a pivotal moment in her career.
Alongside Betty, the evening also highlighted talented emerging Belgian musicians Léa Bachy (flute) and Anouk Vandenbussche (oboe). We are also pleased to continue our commitment to supporting and showcasing emerging Belgian talent.
Moments like these remind us of the power of music to connect people across cultures and generations, while giving exceptional artists the opportunity to share their artistry with new audiences.
Our heartfelt thanks to Rothschild & Co their collaboration and to everyone who joined us for this inspiring evening.
